There is a tendency for ice hockey to be more popular in countries with a colder climate, but it isn't limited that way. Ice Hockey is rarely played outdoors on a frozen lake! It's more usual to have an ice skating rink with the appropriate lines and structure, so in theory an ice hockey stadium could be anywhere, regardless of the country's climate. However, in countries where it's cold outdoors in winter, and there's ice about, children experience sliding about on ice at an early age, and so when they grow up, they've got the idea of ice in them, and so ice hockey comes more naturally. It's just a theory.
